"Our Father. Leadeth me. Witness my conviction to you."

Prayer written for Dr. Byron,
July 4 & 5

"May God bring what help man may use, because he halts problems and has something besides willingness. He reaffirms God's willingness to not judge thy fellow man. He should turn to Luke and John for support. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen."

NOTE (to Byron): Thomas directed us to read Luke to add insight to this prayer. Luke was a physician, and in Thomas' Bible (The Living Insights Study Bible, New International Version) the introduction says, in part " . . . the physician reveals his own distinctive concerns by showing an uncommon interest in various individuals." In speaking of why readers should be grateful to Luke, the author says "Luke provides a comforting record of mercy and compassion for the unloved and unaccepted." Thomas said you would understand and relate to this.

Prayers for Events

Thomas typed the following to be read at his Baptism on this day.
June 23, 2001

"I love Jesus, Lord and Holy Spirit. For He is a king every minute of the day to wolfing disciples seen which man learned to value the protection of God in his Son."

Thomas' message for Christmas 2002

"Jesus loves everyone for all fortnights for years, decades, and centuries. We only think about this time for two weeks a year. Why must we only love the spirit of Jesus for two weeks? May you know the spirit of God and of Jesus Christ our Savior throughout the year."

Written for a Youth service. This prayer followed the reading of John 5:2-17.

"Our Heavenly Father,

Your message teaches us that man thinks, more than believes, his God. We, man or woman, must believe that God, through Jesus, healed this man.

Help us learn that we have to love with our heart, not our mind, and that if we can do that, we have great capacity to heal other's pain and suffering.

Help us realize that miracles are God's love, and that giving is God's gift of hope for all men and women, for if man dies before learning the ways of giving, it is a hell for man. we must learn to pay in love, not words.

Lord, hear our prayer.

In Jesus' Name we pray.

Amen."

Thomas' message for Christmas 2003

"Another year has passed. To love
one another is God's will.

May God bless all of you. We pray
to God and Jesus, forgiving us our
sins until we greet each other,
celebrating the birth of God's Son.
He is the beacon to guide our
missions in life. For love is God."

For Communion
December 2, 2002

"Love, knowing that this is forever the sacrifice of how dedicated our God and the Son of Man loved, so this is the last human evidence to man, that final gift is faith. Join this communion in this spirit, as we go forth in peace to stop evil. We pray in Jesus' name.

Amen."

Thoughts on Different Subjects

A letter from Thomas' father
August 16, 2000

Dear Governor,

My son's name is Thomas Allan Mitchum. He is 19 years old and graduated from Lake Travis High School on May 25, 2000. Thomas is an extraordinary young man, who has cerebral palsy, and is non-verbal and non-ambulatory. He communicates by expressions, and by the use of an alphabet board on which he spells out words. He is deeply religious, and writes prayers, and some spiritual advice, to people. He gets around by riding in a wheelchair and by the use of a large walker. The photo enclosed is of Thomas in the walker receiving his diploma from James Claypool, LTHS principal.

The reason for Thomas writing is to tell you something about your speech, and to offer you some advice. What he typed is in quotes.

"To George. The speech was lacking the word disabled. For all other purposes it was perfect."
We discussed this with Thomas and he feels that you need to include the disabled along with all the other groups you mentioned. There are many people in this country like Thomas who are very smart, but who need someone like you to make sure they are included.

"Look toward the future. Be careful of Saddam Hussien. Keep peace in your heart."
Thomas said you would know what this means.

"Fame may cause some men to worry about friends. God helps your tower win those souls for moral conscience. God will make you for those who live in the valley of temptation."

October 17, 1998

To Thomas:
Is Bill bringing moral decay on the U.S.? Is this the beginning of the end for the American Empire?

From Thomas:
"For love, many people have committed sins. People make mistakes. You judging them is not free. Now let God find forgiveness."

Message from Thomas Mitchum
Sunday, May 5, 2002

"Leave to God the routines, and the fortune of His blessings. Look ahead to the sunrise. God sends the sunrise every day. He places no conditions on His not being loved as He asked to be loved. He loves us anyway, and gives man and woman the gifts of His love unconditionally."

July 12, 1999

"Every little creature has God in it. God is everything."

"Every man and woman has part of God in them, it is difficult to tell anyone besides God."

"Everyone must be able to see that God is everywhere in all beautiful things."

Thoughts on The Covenant
September 14, 2001

(Thomas typed the following on his alphabet board on 9/13 and 9/14/00. He said the thoughts are his feelings about the covenant between God and the people.)

"Teach forward view, because the Covenant goes on. Only God's disciples will want to carry on, for feelings of denial can wound the soul. Some do not view Jesus as the savior."

"Time's purpose is to let people view what they want. But when He decides people are ready, the gifts are decided by God."

Thoughts on September 11th
For the Methodist Men's Club Breakfast
August 11th, 2004

"Let you understand my language. Abilities are given to us by God. Learning to accept those abilities is for others, not yourself. (You already accept your own abilities).

"Those who died in 9/11 had shared their abilities. How have you continued their abilities in your life?" (Many of those who died were described by those who knew them as wonderful friends, helpers, leaders, husbands, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, etc.)

Read 2 Corinthians 1:8-10

Thoughts on "The English Patient"
May 8, 2000

-"To want like faced men learn, soul is the start from God. Almasy's face burned off in crash, learned about his soul as a result. Appearances are deceiving, it does not matter to God."

-"Life is like a poem until you live it for yourself. Poem is a symbol."

-"To him doing right Godly thing for people, a man searches a face. God fills soul."

-"Soul means forever. Man dons appearances."

-"Tell man that fads are ways to decieve man. Has no value."
